The IRS is currently providing help and relief to the victims of St. John and St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, the Municipalities of Vieques, Canovanas, Loiza, and Culebra in Puerto Rico, and to the following Counties in Florida; Broward, Charlotte, Clay, Collier, Duval, Flagler, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Putnam, Sarasota, and St. John Counties. The help is for special tax relief and assistance in filing tax returns and tax payments. They have granted an additional extension of time to file and pay until January 31, 2018, and additional relief is planned by the IRS.
Taxpayers with valid extension dates running out on September 15th, October 15th, and November 15th, of 2017 will receive this extension. Business quarterly payroll tax returns due by October 31st, 2017 will receive this extension. Late deposit penalties for federal payroll and excise tax deposits normally due during the first 15 days of the disaster period will be waived. Individual quarterly estimated tax payments due on September 15th, 2017, and January 15th, 2018 will benefit from the extension. Much more relief is being granted by the IRS but it is to lengthy to mention here. This much-needed help and relief was issued by the IRS on September 12, 2017 and is outlined in News Release IR-2017-150.
